HGTV We’re Not
The Diaper Diaries has inspired me to share our kitchen remodel with all of my blogging friends. It makes me laugh to say “kitchen remodel” because it’s such an excruciatingly slow process that calling it a “remodel” just seems silly. We really don’t want to go into debt to do this, but it is necessary so we’re trying to wait until next spring for Hubs to get his work bonus check. In the meantime we are (and by “we” I mean Hubs) doing what we can ourselves to get the kitchen ready for when we have the funds to do what we want. What, exactly, do we want to do? Oh let me list:
Scrape the popcorn ceilings
Scrape previously painted over wallpaper
Paint Walls
New Cabinets and countertops
New floor
New lighting
New banquet for window (which means we’ll need a new kitchen table)
New appliances (except stove- that’s new)
The hard part is we can only do so much at a time, but some things have to go before others. For now this is what I’m living with and have been for a while.

I’m sure that Hubs will be mortified that I’m showing our kitchen to all of the internet- he’s embarrassed enough just to have people over. I take total responsibility for the paint color and the cabinet color. You can see small patches of the yellow left on the walls- imagine sunshine yellow all over the walls. Hubs (being that we hadn’t even been married one year) smartly kept his mouth shut and let me do my thing. This was the inspiration for my whole kitchen:

From that I picked the paint colors and we painted the drawer and door pulls and switch plates to match. Yes I was a decorating diva. I also have to say that this kitchen was my rebellion to living with white walls all of my life. I was not made to live with white walls. So I got the color explosion out of my system and now I’m ready for something that looks normal different. The fan we just bought a few months ago (in anticipation of our new sophisticated kitchen) to replace the brass chandelier that my kids liked to swing back and forth. The art work on the wall was my attempt to cover up the bare white (I really don’t like white walls), but now they’re just faded and curling up and slowly coming down. I can only throw away file a few at a time- Baby #1 does not understand why ANY of his art work should be “filed.” So join me on this journey- it’s going to be a long one.
I have to add one more little thing. I had to show y’all what my husband was doing with my kids while I was out having dinner with a friend. Do I have a great husband or what?

I think your kitchen is cute. And I love color as well! But, I’m all about redecorating. So, I’m on board with your new kitchen. I’m looking forward to watching the transformation.
I love getting a sneak peek into other peoples homes. I enjoyed seeing your kitchen. I think I was born to be a real estate agent! I could walk through homes (old or new) all day! Maybe I’ll post a picture of my boring kitchen someday!! We bought this house last year and I love the house, but I want to completly redo the kitchen. But, it’s hard to justify it when the kitchen is only 5 years old. But, it’s not my taste and I would love an upgrade (who wouldn’t!).
Take Care!
I know the White Wall Syndrome! I have it, too! I remember standing next to my mother as she painted a white wall with white paint, and I asked her why? Why not go with a color? Her answer? Because when we want to sell the house, the buyers want white. Then they can pick their own color. The insane part is that she was painting the house for us, not to sell! They sold it 20 years later!! Every room is my house is a different, beautiful vibrant COLOR, so you go, girl!
We don’t have a white wall in this place. My FIL whole house is white walls and it drives me crazy. Your hubby is fabulous. I love it when I stumble upon my hubby crafting
