The best time of the year

tree.jpg  For this month’s Group Writing Project hosted by MamaBlogga is the “Best time of the year.”  It’s funny because before I had kids I never really got really into Thanksgiving and Christmas, but now that I have kids this is bar none my favorite time of the year.  It’s not just about the gifts- it’s about the focus on spending time together as a family.  Christmas is a great opportunity for us to talk about Christ being born and what the true meaning of Christmas is.  We really want Christmas to be Christ-centered in our family.  By starting while our kids our young this is all they will ever know.

I love taking the kids to look at Christmas lights and seeing the wonder in their faces when they see all of the Christmas decorations all over town.  Christmas also brings out the Martha Stewart in me.  I’m actually going to make sugar cookies from scratch this year- and (gasp) let the kids help.  I know that all of you real moms are probably horrified that I’ve never made sugar cookies with my kids- but I’m just not much of a cook.  We made Jello from scratch for the first time this week.   We’re also going to paint some wooden ornaments.  I’m normally not a craft-er either- only Christmas could make me do such things.

I love that we take the time during this season to really evaluate what we’re thankful for.  I know that I have so many things that I take for granted and I’m so thankful that my family is healthy and we’re all together for this wonderful season

We had a great time doing those kinds of Christmas-y crafts as a family—I think Christmas brings out the Martha Stewart in a lot of us (in a good way and a psychotic-everything-must-be-perfect way, LOL).

    Thanks for participating!

This time of year brings out the crafter in me, too!

My kids love the Christmas lights so much. My two year old will have us riding up and down the streets all night long. Good luck with your sugar cookies. They are easy and lots of fun. Merry Christmas…vanessa

I couldn’t agree with you more. For the past couple of years at holiday time we take some time out during advent to visit the manger and talk with my son about Jesus and why we celebrate his life.

I agree with what you said about Thanksgiving and Christmas being different after having kids. These are the optimal times for us to create memories and remember the reason for the season. Those are the things they will carry with them forever.

    Warmest Regards,
