WFMW- Laundry Help
I saw this in Women’s Day magazine while I was at the doctor today (sinus infection- thanks for asking). I normally do my whole families laundry all together and end up with mounds of clothes that need to be put away. The new improved way is to do laundry per family member- or in my case per room since Baby #1 and Baby #2 share a closet and dresser. That way when you wash and dry your clothes when you go to put them away you can do it all in one room as opposed to running all over the house. Or if you’re really lucky you can just wash them and unload them on your kids to put their own clothes away. This works for me- check out Rocks in my Dryer for more great ideas.
If you want to see how Hubs and I made $133 in really easy money- check this out.

Doesn’t this make for more loads of laundry to do? I separate all out by darks, colors, whites, towels, etc. So, would you, for instance, do three different loads of whites if you had people in three different bedrooms in your house, or am I not understanding this correctly?
I too seperate by person and I have designated days for each person so that I am left w/a ton of laundry come the weekend!!
I forgot to mention that the article said that you could wash your whites with your darks. Personally- I have to wash all of the underwear in hot water- that’s just me though. That was part of the reason it saved time because you don’t have to separate by color too. It said to throw a cup of vinegar in with the wash and the whites will stay bright.
Great tip. I kind of use this style for washing and started it recently. I tell my kids to bring me their hampers and I wash their colored clothes together. Then I only have kid’s clothes to put away. My daughter sometimes helps with putting away her socks, pajamas, and underwear. Then I wash all of my husband’s work clothes together once there is a full load. I usually only have to wash 1 load of whites each week.
I love the show Jon and Kate Plus 8 and she does this same thing for their family of 10. Thanks for the tip. I think I might try it!
This is a great tip. Even better is when they get older and can do their own laundry.
Interesting idea…but whenever I try that, I always seem to have one silly piece of dark clothing that wants to leave dark blotches on the light-colored clothing. Maybe those color-catcher sheets would help.
