Things I Love Thursday: Stranger Safety DVD
I posted this earlier this year, but wanted to repost it because it would be a great gift for Christmas or birthday gift.
I love being a mom. And I love just about every aspect of it. One thing I don’t like is teaching my kids about strangers and how there are dangerous people out there that want to hurt them. Unfortunately it’s just part of the world we live in and as much as I’d love to duck my head in the sand and pray that they’re always safe – I know that I’m not doing them any favors by doing that.
One tool that I’ve used in teaching stranger safety to my kids is the The Safe Side: Stranger Safety. It’s created by John Walsh of America’s Most Wanted fame and Julie Clark the creator of Baby Einstein.
The thing that I love about this video is that it shows kids that strangers are totally normal looking people. It also helps put people into two categories: “kind of knows” and “don’t knows.” They also suggest that parents give their kids three “safe side adults” so their kids will know who it is okay to go home with and who’s not okay.
Baby #2 actually likes to just watch this video- as if it was like her Barbie videos. I can tell that she’s getting it because if she sees kids walking around the neighborhood she’ll say that they need to have their safe side adult with them.
I highly recommend this DVD as a way to really open up the conversation with your kids about stranger safety.

Things I Love Thursday: Boston Market
When I was asked by BzzAgent if I wanted to join the Boston Market campaign it took me about 2.5 seconds to jump in. I mean really- a chance to try some great food for free. I”m all about that.
I know that some people enjoy the cooking part of Thanksgiving and more power to them. I like the hanging out with the family part of Thanksgiving and could do without the whole cooking part. Thankfully Boston Market is able to help out with this. They can take care of the hard part for you and with affordable meal plans it doesn’t break the bank. For instance you can order their Deluxe Buffet for only $9.99 per person.
What do you get for $9.99 per person? Here’s the breakdown:
-Choice of entrée: Boneless Roasted Turkey Breast, Boneless Ham, Rotisserie Chicken 11.99 if you want Beef Brisket)
-2 gourmet sides: Mashed Potatoes & Gravy and Sweet Corn
-Fresh Cornbread
-Assorted Apple Pie and Pumpkin by the slice (one slice per person)
-Includes set-up, paperware and serving utensils
They have several different buffet options which you can learn more about on their website.
After getting to try one of their dinners last night I can tell you that their food is really good. It’s hot and fresh worth the money to not deal with the hassle of cooking for a whole bunch of people.
The first two commenters today will get a coupon book full of great deals at Boston Market. Including one coupon for $3.00 a purchase of $6.00 or more.
If you’re interested in ordering a Boston Market Holiday Buffet you can save 10% off your order of $100 or more by using the special discount code: BZZAGENT.

FCC disclosure: I was not paid to write this post, but I was given a coupon to try a free meal. I don’t get any money from anyone ordering anything at Boston Market.

Things I Love Thursday- Chamomile Tea
I took a little hiatus from TILT because- well there wasn’t anything I was really loving. But I’m back with a good one.
I am not a routine oriented person. There are only a few things that I routinely do every single day (and yes brushing my teeth is on that list), but one thing I do every single night is drink chamomile tea. I have to share my all time favorite one – Celestial Seasonings Sleepytime Extra. Note the extra part- that’s what makes it different from the regular Sleepytime.
I noticed that I actually sleep a lot better when I drink the Sleepytime Extra- over the regular Sleepytime tea. The ST- Extra contains valerian- which promotes relaxation.
Here’s a little snippet from Celestial Seasoning’s website:
Sleepytime Extra® Wellness Tea
Nothing promotes physical and mental well being like a good night’s sleep. So when you need something to help you unwind, enjoy a cup of Sleepytime Extra. This relaxing and delicious herbal tea starts with the time-honored blend of chamomile, spearmint and other soothing herbs found in our beloved Sleepytime® tea. We then add valerian, trusted as a sleep aid since the days of the Greeks and Romans because of its mild sedative properties. The result is a tea with the trusted calming effect and great taste of Sleepytime, plus just a little “extra” to gently lull you to sleep. †
I actually sleep about as well using this tea as I do when I take an actual sleeping pill. This is some seriously good stuff!

Things I Love Thursday- Method
For my long time readers y’all probably recognize that this is a repeat. I posted this almost 2 years ago, but even though I have a few things that I love right now- a whole new post just isn’t happening this week. So check back next week (hopefully) for something new.
I have just started using the Method cleaners- specifically the general cleaner and the bathroom cleaner and I love it! The thing that I love is that it’s not harsh, stinky chemicals it’s much more gentle and non-toxic. I like that it doesn’t sting my skin like some of the other cleaners I have. I also like my lungs don’t sting after inhaling it. I know that there are lots of home remedies you can make, but they usually involve vinegar and I just can’t stand the smell of vinegar- no matter how great it cleans. I bought mine at Target- I’m not sure if you can get it anywhere else.

Things I Love Thursday- Popchips
So it’s Thursday which means I’m bringing you another snack idea. I honestly didn’t have anything until I went to Target yesterday and made the fateful decision to buy a bag of Popchips. Hello lover I have found my new favorite chips.
My regulars know that I’ve recently lost 30 pounds and in order to keep the weight off chips are not a part of my regular diet. I’ve tried the baked kind and I’m just not feeling it. They’re okay- but not really good enough to waste calories on. Enter Popchips- the snack bag that I bought yesterday- .8 oz- only has 100 calories and 3 grams of fat and they taste so good! They don’t taste like low calorie/low fat chips.
I also really like that they’re all natural- they don’t have preservatives, artificial flavors or colors, cholesterol or saturated fat! Now I’m not saying that they’re a health food, but if you really want some chips, but don’t want all the junk that usually comes with chips you need to give these a try.

Things I Love Thursday- Yoplait Delights Parfait
You are in for a treat today! My friend, J, told me about these last week and I had to run out and try them. The Yoplait Delights Parfait’sare so good (if you click on the link there’s a coupon- for my fellow coupon-ers). They taste way more decadent than 100 calories. Even if you’re not normally a yogurt person I would encourage you to give these a try.
They’re so rich and creamy- it feels more like a rich pudding than the yogurt I usually eat. I am totally loving the Chocolate Raspberry flavor. To be honest- I’m loving them so much that I haven’t tried the other flavors yet (Tripple Berry Creme, Creme Caramel, and Lemon Torte).
If you’re looking for a creamy dessert that’s not calorie rich you should really check these out.

Things I Love Thursday- Netflix
![]() |
I can’t believe that I haven’t done a post on my undying love for Netflix. I really thought that I had already and I was going to do another TILT about Netflix because I found some more things that I love about it.
For those of you that live under a rock and don’t know what Netflix is let me give you a brief summary. You pay a monthly fee and have movies sent to your house. For instance we have the plan for $8.99 a month and get unlimited rentals per month- one DVD at a time. We also get unlimited instant view movies that we can watch on our computer (or you can get a box for $100 and have the movies streamed to your tv- we haven’t made that leap yet).
Since we don’t have cable- Netflix is our small treat to ourselves. The thing that I discovered this past weekend and am really really loving -is the fact that they have lots and lots of workout videos you can watch on demand! I seriously don’t need to buy any more workout DVDs because I have such a great library through Netflix.
They have my BFF Jillian Michaels, Crunch, Self Magazine- among other workout titles. Everything from kickboxing to Pilates.
I also have to say that the DVDs when we get in the mail are always in good condition. We actually used to do Blockbuster by mail, but scratched to Netflix because the DVDs we got from Blockbuster were almost always too scratched up to watch.
So there you have it- I love Netflix! Go check out other things that people love at The Diaper Diaries.

Things I Love Thursday: e-Mealz
It’s no secret that I’m not crazy about cooking or anything involving cooking- such as menu planning. I’m so excited about this weeks thing that I love- e-Mealz. It has taken the hassle out of combing the internet- or just my cookbooks- and gives me seven meals every week. The best part is it’s not a one size fits all solution. You can get a meal plan based on the store you shop at most or you can get your meals based on your diet needs. They even have one specifically for Weight Watchers which is what I subscribe to.
If you chose the store option they’ll pull recipes from what the store has on sale that week. It takes the guess work out for you and you end up saving money! You even get a weekly grocery list for the recipes every week. The only thing that would be easier is if they did the grocery shopping and cooking for you, but since you’re only paying $1.25 a week that’s not going to happen.
This works really well for me and I really do love it. It takes the hassle out of menu planning for me and so far all of the recipes we’ve tried have been great. My husband, who’s not a weight watcher, has liked everything I’ve made so far.
The way that I use it in menu planning- is now that I have about 7 weeks worth of menus I’ll go back pick out my favorite recipes and put them in a calendar, print it out and I’m good. When I make my grocery list I’ll see what we’re having that week and get what I need. Since the menu I chose is a Weight Watcher menu and not based on what’s on sale for the week I can buy things when they’re on sale if I know that I’ll make it later in the month.
If you’re stuck in a rut- or just not really menu planning at all this is a really great way to get started.

Things I Love Thursday- Mars Hill Church Podcast
For those of you reading this on Wednesday evening- you’re getting a sneak peak. I finally got the video to work so I’m posting it now.
I’m really excited about the thing that I love this week because- 1. It’s FREE! and 2. If you’re married this will help you have a stronger marriage. A friend told me about the podcasts at Mars Hill Church in Seattle several months ago. I downloaded a few of Pastor Mark Driscoll’s sermons and really enjoyed them.
I went into iTunes to see what he had out there that I hadn’t listened to yet and found his Peasant Princess series. I cannot even describe how great this series is. If you’re married you must listen to it. He’s going through the Song of Songs. Let that sink in for all of you that know what the Song of Songs is about. Yes- a pastor preaching on the Song of Songs- and he brings it.
He goes there and further.
I love that he’s doesn’t back off our sugar coat what the book is about. It’s about a married couple and all aspects of their marriage. I’m not trying to be prude- the only reason I don’t come out and just say it is because I post pictures of my kids on my blog and don’t people looking for that sort of thing coming to my blog from Google.
I have personally gotten so much out of this series. I’ve been convicted about somethings that I need to be working and it’s going to make our marriage even better.
The sermons are about an hour long and there have been some times when I just haven’t had the time to listen continuously. Here are the ways I’ve managed to fit it in:
1. When I walk in the morning without my neighbor I’ll listen on my iPod.
2. I painted our master bedroom this past weekend and listened to my iPod while I worked.
3. If I’m running errands I’ll put one ear bud in and listen while the kids listen to their music.
Those are the ways that I find time to listen because just sitting down for one whole hour to listen isnt’ going to happen. If you’re not an auditory learner (which I am not- at all) let me encourage you to give him a try. Pastor Driscoll is very engaging and he’s a great speaker and he really pulls you in.
You can also watch the series on Mars Hill Church’s website. Hubs hasn’t been able to listen because he doesn’t have an iPod and he drives an ancient car that only has a cassette player (I would have burned him a CD if he had a player in his car) so we’re going to watch the series online. We’ve caught up on 30 Rock and every other show we watch – so why not watch this (when the kids are sleeping though- some of it most of it is not for kid’s ears).

Things I Love Thursday: Chex Mix Bars
My Blog Spark asked me if I’d like to try Chex Mix bars I jumped at the chance. Anyone who knows me, or just reads my blog, knows that I love snacks. I especially love when I can find a snack that’s easy to eat (sounds weird, but when you have 3 kids you eat a lot of your snacks on the go), taste good, and it’s always a bonus when there’s some healthy stuff thrown in there too.
That’s why I love Chex Mix bars. They have less than 150 calories- which is good for me point wise (I’m a weight watcher in case you didn’t already know), and they also have 8 grams of whole wheat, 4 grams of fiber and 2 grams of protein. So I get a great tasting snack, and some of the other things I try to get in every day! They have two great flavors- turtle and chocolate chunk.
I’ve actually found that they make a great night cap snack. I’ll take it upstairs with my chamomile tea and book and eat and drink away while I yell at my kids to “GO TO BED!!”
The best part is three lucky readers will receive two boxes each so you can try it for yourself! Just leave me a comment and I’ll randomly choose a winner at noon on Sunday.
